Why is there so much condensation (or frost) on the inside of my aluminum glass door in the winter?

Aluminum is a highly conductive metal. In freezing weather, standard aluminum frames transfer the freezing outside temperatures indoors. When your warm, humid indoor air hits the cold metal frame, it instantly creates condensation. To permanently solve this in cold climates, your door frame must have a "thermal break" (an internal insulated barrier that stops cold transfer) and high-quality weatherstripping to block drafts.

My commercial glass door is dragging on the floor and won't latch. Do I need to replace the whole door?

Usually, no. Door dragging and latch failures are incredibly common and are generally caused by the door sagging under the heavy weight of the glass. This typically stems from worn top or bottom pivot hinges, or a frame that has settled out of square. A technician can often fix this by adjusting the pivot height, shimming the hinges, or replacing the worn pivot hardware to re-align the door with the strike plate.

Why is my storefront door slamming shut violently instead of closing softly?

Your door relies on a hydraulic closer mounted at the top to regulate its swing speed. If the door is slamming, one of two things has happened: either the speed adjustment valves have vibrated loose over time, or the hydraulic fluid has leaked out. If the closer is leaking oil, it cannot be adjusted and must be completely replaced. Never ignore a slamming door, as the repeated impact will eventually shatter the glass or severely damage the frame.

I feel a massive cold draft coming from the bottom of my aluminum door. How do I fix this?

Drafts at the threshold are usually the result of a worn, compressed, or torn door sweep. The rubber, vinyl, or brush seal at the bottom of the door degrades from constant friction against the floor. Replacing the bottom sweep and ensuring the door is vertically aligned so the seal makes full contact with the threshold will easily stop the draft and prevent water from blowing in during storms.

Can I upgrade my current commercial aluminum door with heavier impact or triple-pane glass?

Yes, but you must upgrade your hardware at the same time. Impact or multi-pane glass is significantly heavier than standard commercial glazing. If you install heavier glass but leave the standard-duty pivot hinges and door closer in place, the hardware will quickly fail under the extra weight, causing the door to sag. Always specify heavy-duty, weight-rated closers and hinges when upgrading glass.

What happens if I ignore a minor alignment issue or a door that "sticks" a little bit?

Small alignment shifts create a rapid domino effect. A misaligned door forces the closer to work harder, grinds the bottom of the door against the threshold, and repeatedly bashes the latch into the strike plate rather than sliding into the pocket. Over time, this accelerates hardware failure and can even cause the structural frame to warp or the glass panels to break. Fixing a small sag or sticking issue early will save you from an expensive full-door replacement down the road.
